Design Wall Monday

This is kind of a sneak preview of my next show quilt. It's english paper piecing so all by hand. On the right is a photo of the quilt that inspired me and a sketch of my plan for the center medalion. I will need 250 rosettes. I have 24 finished. My goal is to finish this in time for the San Francisco Quilters Guild show in 2015.

Design Wall Monday

Last week was a holiday all week and I got a lot done. I worked on my english paper piecing, visitied my daughter for Thanksgiving and finished the following quilts. The first is the one I showed last week, I call it Kaffe's Arrowhead. I decided to make it slightly larger than my original plan so I had to make 21 additional blocks. Final measurement is 93 x 93.

Next I put the borders on the top quilt pictured. This quilt is a gift for my CDW sales rep, who is having a baby next month. On the bottom is the same pattern done in the scraps from Kaffe's Arrowhead. The pattern is called Belgian Waffles and I originally saw it on the Moda Bake Shop blog.

The final product. Instead of setting triangles I made half blocks for the edges. I couldn't decided what color to use for the triangles. Last night I was considering no borders but this morning it seems so busy that borders will calm it down. I will have to see if I have enough yardage left. These two projects used up most of my stash of early Kaffe Fasset prints and shot cottons.

Design Wall Monday

Here's what's on the wall today. I was at a retreat last month and made a baby-size Anita's Arrowhead, from Rotary Cutting Revolution. I liked the method so much when I got back I started this quilt.

It's older Kaffe Fassett prints and shot cottons. This quilt will finish at 85" x 85".

Design Wall Monday

It's actually a design table. A friend taught me english paper piecing and now I'm an addict. It is a nice type of project to take on the go. I'm planning this piece as a topper for my dining table. What better place to lay it out? I'm working on another with even smaller pieces but I didn't have time to take a photo.

Design Wall Monday

This is a pattern called Twist and Twirl, from Quiltmaker M/J 2009. I have been meaning to make this for a long time. I made a test block and posted about it here, almost a year ago. This week I was looking for a quick project to keep me busy. My daughter moved out two weeks ago and while I'm happy for her, I'm feeling a little lonely. This helped me keep my mind off it.

Design Wall Monday

Finally something new: the hot cross buns blocks sewn into a top. It turned out darker than I'd like due to the navy sashing. The blue print borders brightened it up a bit. Of course the photo is brighter than real life. I'll quilt this and put it aside for a baby gift. The blocks are only 5 inches across, the whole quilt is 37" x 49".

Design Wall Monday

I have a new project today. I have been wanting to make a bug bottle quilt for a long time. My friend, Barbara, who owns the local quilt store, gave me a grocery back of bug fabric and two different patterns last year. I cut the fabric up today and have enough to make 8 quilts! I will make a couple myself and get my friends to make the rest. Most of them will go to the Valley of the Moon Children's Home and the San Antonio Childcare Center.
Last night I finished my Ranch Hands 2012 Challenge. Here's a pic, and the back, too. I had extra fabric and made some back art. It's about 42" square. It's also a UFO finish.

Design Wall Monday

A new project today! This block is called Hot Cross Buns and it's from Bonnie Hunter's Addicted to Scraps column in the Nov/Dec 2010 issue of Quiltmaker. I am thinking of navy sashing with red or yellow cornerstones.
Here is the wedding quilt finished. I gave it to the bride last Saturday and she was thrilled. Details are included on the Finshed Quilts page.

Design Wall Monday

Actually it's design floor Monday. This quilt is way too big to fit on the wall. I am almost finished with the center and then I'll decide what fabric to use for the borders. I have two choices, a brown print or a green print.

Design Wall Monday

I haven't posted anything in six weeks because I haven't really worked on anything during that time. Life has been getting in the way. I did start a new project. This will be a wedding gift for a good friend of my daughter. She's getting married in April so I better get going. The pattern is called Beach Party and it's from the second Nickel Quilt book. I changed the four-patch blocks so they would form Xs instead of diagonal stripes.

I also made a trip to the Valley of the Moon Children's Home last Friday and dropped off 29 quilts, pictured below. I dropped off 6 quilts at the San Antonio Childcare Center earlier in the week, not pictured.
