Design Wall Monday

I have made a lot of progress this week. Unfortunatly, I have been working on this instead of other important things.

Design Wall Monday

I started working on this quilt last spring. The pattern is from an antique quilt. The squares have to be laid out and carefully sewn together. It's very slow going, however, I find it relaxing and meditative. I will keep going until I run out of the red I am using for the chains between the blocks. The squares are cut at 1 1/2 inches, so 1/3 of this quilt is disappearing into the seam allowances. I'm thinking of using wool batting because the top will be so heavy.

Here's a closeup of some of the blocks.

Renewal Quilt is Complete!

Here are a couple of photos of the completed quilt. One of the whole quilt and a close up that shows the quilting and signatures.

Renewal Quilt

Here's the top finished. It is folded into quarters since I don't have a space indoors large enough to lay it out. It came out to 104" square. I had hoped to have it quilted and bound by tomorrow but everything always takes longer than I think. I'll make the back and binding tonight so I can put it on the longarm Friday. I should have it finished by the end of the weekend.

Design Wall Monday

Here's what's on the wall today. This is a gift for my friends who renewed their wedding vows last spring (married 20+ years!) It's a pattern from the 3rd nickel quilt book. We had attendees sign the white pieces at the after party. This is only the center, the whole thing will be 100" x 100"! I'm not sure how I'm going to get it all laid out. I may have to clean my living room to get it done. And I got a crazy idea that I could get the top done and quilted to give to them on Thanksgiving. Wish me luck!

Design Wall Monday

More of the same blocks this week. I need 35 total, so 20 more to go. I do have all the white star parts finished.

Design Wall Monday

These blocks came from a photo I saw on Keryn Emerson's blog so I will call them Keryn's Star. There is no pattern so I am using 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" strips sewed together using the stitch-and-flip method. These are 12" blocks and the final quilt will be 5 x 7 blocks.
